RIP laptop #3
I don’t seem to be blessed with luck when it comes to portable computers. My first one, a FujiSiemens, was hit by an item falling from the bookshelf above. The second one, a rather crappy Targa laptop, was hit by a doorframe and the third one, a Dell Inspiron, just didn’t wake up anymore the other day.
I spent over an hour talking to the Dell support guy and dismembered my laptop single-handedly. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that it can be safed: obviously the mainboard is gone. It doesn’t help that it happened no less than 20 days after the guarantee ran out. I like the machine. Sure it was a bit bulky and a bit too heavy. But the battery lifetime and the overall performance suited me just fine.
Anyway, this leaves me with no mobile computer and I need to come up with something new (repair cost and guarantee upgrade is said to be at about 600 €, NOT happening). The problem again is choice, always has been…

I liked my Z61m – it had everything I needed and naturally, I set out to get me a new one (or at least the recent successor version). Unfortunately, IBM / Lenovo isn’t shipping the Thinkpad Z-series anymore and so I settled with the new R61 (model no. NF26VGE). [...]
