Is there anybody out there…?

DVD coverWhat might seem to you now as a mere cry-out against a possible feeling of loneliness despite the Web 2.0′s best efforts to link together computer geeks, creating the illusion of Social Life (which I luckily still possess) is in fact nothing more than a simple praise on Pink Floyd’s masterpiece The Wall.

My copy of the super-special² limited DVD version arrived yesterday and I couldn’t resist watching the film instantly. I’ve never been much into Pink Floyd even though I obviously dig the more sinister type of music. My first contact with The Wall was 1997 during the Kirchentag in Leipzig when I attended a live performance of the group “Rückkopplung”. Curious about the real version, I watched the movie shortly after that.

I remember how I once forgot the CD was in my CD-player which also served as my alarm clock at that time. Trust me, it is not nice to have your day started by the sounds of “Hey you” and “Is there anybody out there?“. On the other hand, I sure was awake quite quickly to find the stop button on the remote.

The grotesque images in the film now reminded me of a sick Malkavian’s dream and it is surely an … interesting sort of influence in future visions for Malkavian characters in our Vampire LARP (speaking of deranged dreams: have you seen The Cell? Similarly hard to stomach… and that’s not because of Jennifer Lopez acting the main role).

While I am still awestruck by this film’s pictorial and musical intensity, I am also disappointed how little people now about this work as a whole, i.e. only the EP “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)”. Not that I would claim utter knowledge about it myself, mind you, but aforementioned track of the 2 CD set is totally taken out of context. I can recommend the corresponding Wikipedia page. And if the movie caught your interest, I will be more than happy to lend it.

Don’t look so frightened, this is just a passing phase, one of my bad days *CRASH*…
    Just an earthbound misfit
